FAQs
    • You can apply for a Boulder City Library Card if you...

      • live in Boulder City or Clark County.
      • are employed by a business or governmental agency within Boulder City.
      • are an eligble agency operating in Boulder City such as a senior center, retirement homes, school, preschool, or day care center.
      • live in areas bordering the Boulder City Library District such as Willow Beach, Dolan Springs, White Hills, and Temple Bar, AZ.
      • current, valid library card holder for another public library within Nevada. 

       

      If you don't meet the residency and ID requirements, you are welcome to borrow from our paperback and DVD Swaps and can use other print materials within the Library. Public computers and WIFI are also available.

    • Patrons can stop by the service desk to fill out a form to receive a library card. You must present a valid photo ID in order to sign up for a library card. If the ID doesn't have your current local address on it, you must provide proof of address such as:

      • Utility Deposit receipt.
      • Utility BillRent receipt.
      • USINS Work Card.
      • Current Military ID.
      • U.S. Parks Service card or letter with volunteer dates.
      • Current Local RV Park receipt.
      • A piece of mail, postmarked within the last 30 days, addressed to the applicant at the address claimed. 

      Full-Service Library Card

      A full-service library card allows access to our physical and online resources. Please note that if you do not live in Boulder City, not all online resources may be available. Check with your local library to see what online resources may be offered.


      For Agencies applying for a library card

      The director of the agency must sign the application indicating the agency will accept financial responsibility for the materials checked out on the card. The agency will be held responsible for lost materials and late fees and will be subject to the same circulation policies as individuals.

      Schools may be eligible if the principal, who has budget authority for the school, signs the application indicating the school will be financially responsible for the materials checked out on the card.

      Agency library cards expire annually and a new application must be submitted yearly.


      Temporary Library Cards

      Temporary library cards will be issued for people living in the area for at least one month with proof. Cards will be set to expire on "leave" date.


      eCard 

      eCards are for patrons living in the local area that may not be eligible for a full-service library card. eCards can only access our online resources and are valid for one year.
      Please note that if you do not live in Boulder City, not all online resources may be available. eCards can be requested by filling out the form on our website. 

    • If you have an email on file, you can reset your pin by clicking here.

      If you're unsure if you have an email on file or don't receive an email, please stop into the library and we can get you a new pin.

      If you never set up a pin, leave the pin blank when logging into the catalog with your library card number. You will be directed to set up a pin on the next screen.

    • Library cardholders can check out up to 50 physical items at a time. These limits are for Boulder City Library items, other library districts have different limits. Please ask a staff member if you have any questions.

      • Books, audiobooks, and music CDs may be borrowed for up to 3 weeks.
      • DVDs with one or two discs may be borrowed for up to 1 week.
      • DVDs with three or more discs may be borrowed for up to 2 weeks.
      • Magazines may be borrowed for up to 1 week. Magazines cannot be renewed. The most current issue of a magazine is available only for use in the building.
      • Board games, cake pans, and other Library of Things items are subject to different limits. Those limits are posted with the collection.
      • Items requested from other libraries are subject to the owning library's rules.

      eResources have different limits. Please check the help section of the database for limits.

    • Library patrons will be assessed overdue fines and replacement fees for late, damaged, or lost items according to the Fines and Fees Schedule. No overdue fines are charged for youth items. However, if the items are not returned, a bill for the items, including a processing fee and a possible collection agency fee will be issued.

    • In the library? You can use one of the catalog computers or ask at the Information Desk for help to find an item.

    • There are multiple ways you can renew items with the Boulder City Library. Items can be renewed if the time is eligible for renewals, there are no holds, and the item has not hit the renewal limit.

      • Auto-Renewal: Items may auto-renew if there are no holds on the item and your card is in good standing. Any overdue items, billed item, or fine may prevent other items from auto-renewing.
      • Online: Items can be renewed online at https://ilsweb.lvccld.org/patroninfo~S11. You just need your library card number or pin.
      • Call: Give us a call at 702-293-1281 with your library card number or the barcode of the item.
      • In Library: Stop by the Circulation or Information Desk with your card or the item. Or you can renew using the self-checkout with your card and pin.
    • You can request items from the Las Vegas Clark County Library District or North Las Vegas Library District.

      Give us a call or stop in with your library card and we can search for the item and put a hold on it for you.

      OR

      Put it on hold yourself using our online catalog system. You just need your library card number and pin.   

      When the item is ready for pickup, you'll receive email or a phone notification.

    • ILL

      If an item is not available at another local library, you may request an interlibrary loan (ILL). Interlibrary loans come from libraries all over the United States and can take upwards of a month to arrive. Some items may not be available via ILL.

      Patrons can stop by the Information Desk to fill out a request for an ILL. There is a limit to 3 items per patron at one time.

      Patrons requesting ILLs are responsible for all fees charged by the lending library including lending fees, fines, or fees for lost/damaged items. 


      Request for Purchase

      You can suggest an item for purchase using our form available at the desk. A submitted request is not a guarantee that the item will be purchased.

    • We do accept some items for donation at the Boulder City Library. This is not a guarantee the item will be put into the collection. Most items end up in book sales. Items will be accepted Monday-Friday during normal library hours. We do not accept donations on the weekend due to staff constraints. You can drop donations off at the staff door on the side of the building by the recycling and trash bins. Ring the bell to alert staff.

      For other types of donations, including large monetary donations please contact the Library Director.

    • Boulder City Library provides test proctoring services. If you need to have a test proctored, please read the following guidelines and fill out and return the Proctoring Request Form to Boulder City Library.

      Please note that our computers cannot be guaranteed for over an hour of use. We do provide wifi for those bringing their own devices.

      Proctoring Guidelines for Boulder City Library

      The student:

      • must fill out the request form at least one week in advance of exam date.
      • is responsible for setting up proctor verification with the institution or organization.
      • must arrange for the exam to be sent to the proctor.
      • must provide postage and return envelope.
      • is required to bring all necessary exam supplies, including laptop, notes, calculators, etc.
      • must bring Photo ID with them.
      • must be on time and must notify staff member if they cannot make the appointment or is running late.

      The Library:

      • will confirm your appointment within 2 business days.
      • will assign a Library staff member to proctor your exam.
      • may decline your request if staff is unavailable.
      • cannot be held responsible for exams not received by the institution.

    • Yes, we do offer services for those who are homebound. Check out our brochure or call for more information.

    • We have two meeting rooms that are available for use by groups for meetings that are open to the public. For more information including the policies and booking, please see our meeting room page.

    • Our Amphitheater is available for rent. Check out the policies, fees, and booking information here.

    • The Boulder City Library has 3 study pods. The study pods are intended for informal individual or small group use (max 2 people). The study pods are not to be used for commercial purposes. Commercial purposes include, but are not limited to, the offering or solicitation of goods, services, or memberships. Tutors may use the study room, but no exchange of money can take place on library grounds.

      Funds for this project have been provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services through the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the Nevada State Library, Archives, and Public Records. 

    • We have two computer labs for public use.

      • Our Adult computer lab has 10 computers that access the internet with no filters.
      • Our Youth computer lab has 6 computes with filters.

      All of our lab computers can print in color and black & white.

      Computer use is limited to 1 session a day, up to 1 hour. If no one is waiting the computer will prompt you for more time.

      If you are a guest, please stop by the Information Desk with your photo ID and we will issue you a guest pass.

      Please review our computer policy before using the computer.

    • We do have wifi through Cox for public use. Our wifi is available inbuilding and does reach outside. You must agree to the terms of service to access our wifi.

      If your computer is having issues bringing up the portal page, please try typing http://bclibrary.org into the address bar.

      Anyone violating the terms of service may be banned from using our wifi. 

    • Our 3D printer will be available for use after the opening of the Makerspace.

    • Yes. Prints are $.10 a page, black and white. Print jobs only stay in the queue for 4 hours.

      There are two ways to send a print from your computer.

    • Yes! You can print in color from one of our computers.

      Color printing isn't available through our mobile print service.

    • We do not have a public fax machine at the Library.

      The closest fax service is Bee's Mail Service. They also offer notary services.

    • We're happy to help you get library resources on your device to the best of our abilities! 

      We offer Tech Teacher, a 45 minute 1 on 1 appointment with one of our tech experts. Learn how to use your device, online library resources, and more! No repairs, please. Call to sign up. Availability is limited.

    • We do lend out hotspots!

      The Boulder City Library has 15 hotspots for checkout. These devices will give you internet anywhere there is T-Mobile coverage.

      • The hotspots check out for 2 weeks and cannot be renewed.
      • Please called us (293-1281) to be added to the request list.
      • You must be 18+ and a Boulder City Resident to check out a hotspot.
      • There is a limit of one per household and you cannot be on the request list while having a device checked out.
      • Please let the librarian know you’d like to be added to the list when returning the hotspot.
      • Please note there are fines ($5 a day) for these devices as they are in high demand.

    • We have events for all ages, all year round including Summer and Winter Reading Programs!

      You can search for a specific event or limit events to age groups. The calendar can also send you a monthly email based on the events you like.

    • Some events are limited and require registration. If registration is required, it will be noted on the event and you can sign up online or give us a call at 702-293-1281.

    • Some of our events do have age limits or age ranges. Age ranges and limits will be listed on the event page if the event has one. Our events also have categories if you looking for a specific age group.

      For example: 

      Our cooking class series 'How Not to Burn Toast' is for ages 16+.

    • The Boulder City Library offers lots of online resources for our patrons to use. Some of these resources are limited to residents of Boulder City but can be used by anyone within the Library.

    • Yes! We have lots of eBooks and audiobooks for you to choose from through 4 different services.

      • Libby/Overdrive: Overdrive is the largest lender of eBooks and eAudiobook. We’ve partnered with Las Vegas to offer you thousands of books at your fingertips. All you need is an up to date library! Includes apps for iDevices & Android.
      • Hoopla: Hoopla Digital is a digital streaming service for library users to access eBooks, eAudiobooks, music, movies, and TV shows using devices like pcs, smartphones, and tablets. *Limit 10 items per month
      • Boundless: Boundless is a new online destination for kids & teens ebooks and audiobooks! They will find great reads, including the latest, popular fiction and nonfiction. Just download the easy-to-use Boundless app for iOS, Android, and Kindle devices and start browsing and checking out today. 
      • Tumblebooks: TumbleBookLibrary Premium has over 1100 titles for grades K-6, and includes our unique animated, talking picture books, read-along chapter books, National Geographic videos, non-fiction books, playlists, as well as books in Spanish and French. Plus, the collection features Graphic Novels – a student favorite!
